The overall visual system for Rukundo Ikawa Gourmet hinges on the nostalgia of being back home in Burundi and the overall love of coffee. Rukundo translates to love in Kirundi hence the logomark constitutes a coffee bean and a drop in the overall shape of a heart that is replicated four times to honor the significance of geometry in African design systems. Having never explored Burundian inspiration in my design work till now - the objective was to keep it intentionally simple. I cycled through a few iterations but as l widened my research, I came across an image of an elderly Burundian female coffee producer taking a moment to rest by @mildus and it immediately struck me. It encompassed a deep sense of longing coupled with earnest hard work and vying for a better future. If anything, this is a tribute. African farmers must be recognized.
